Leaves, grass clippings & yard waste are banned from the landfill in Vermont.

Leaves, grass clippings & yard waste are accepted at LRSWMD Johnson (loose), Stowe (must be bagged in a Kraft bag) and Worcester (must be bagged in a Kraft bag) stations.

The best management technique is the oldest— if you have the space, make a pile and let them decompose into rich organic humus. Piled up around ornamental trees, shrubs, and perennials, leaves also provide an excellent cover for overwintering ground pollinators.

If you’re a backyard composter, you can add them to your backyard pile. Leaves make a great carbon source and can provide aeration.
