PLASTIC BAGS & FILM PLASTIC
DISPOSAL INFO
Film plastics can be recycled through a program called NexTrex, which turns them into outdoor furniture. We collect materials on our accepted items list at all LRSWMD transfer stations, as do many grocery stores. Film plastics should never go into single stream recycling, but instead in their own clearly labelled container at each site.
High Density Polyethylene
Low Density Polyethylene
Linear Low Density Polyethylene
Most film plastics accepted by NexTrex will have a resin number of 2 or 4 (see above)
Putting film plastics in zero sort recycling can lead to major problems at the MRF (the recycling facility where all of the zero-sort recycling goes after it leaves our transfer stations).
If you don’t drop your film plastics off for recycling through us or at a local grocery store, then they must go in the trash.
All items should be CLEAN and DRY.
