Wood Ash

Cold wood ash can be sprinkled on lawns, added to low pH soils, or used on slippery walkways in place of sand. It can also be disposed of in household trash.

Adding wood ash to compost is not recommended because it drives off nitrogen and quickly raises pH which can kill microbial life.

Please DO NOT dispose of wood ash with your leaf and yard debris or food scraps.
