ABOUT US

The Lamoille Regional Solid Waste Management District (LRSWMD) is comprised of 12 member towns; each community either appoints or elects a representative to serve on the Board of Supervisors. LRSWMD guides member communities towards compliance with Vermont state solid waste regulations, hosts collection facilities and a commercial composting operation, provides annual household hazardous waste collections, delivers outreach and education on materials management in LRSWMD communities, offers free use of collection receptacles for community events, and sells recycling and composting bins at subsidized costs.

LRSWMD MISSION
To reduce the quantity and toxicity of the trash generated and going to the landfill while maintaining or improving overall environmental quality (air, water, and soil), treating customers and employees with respect, and operating within a balanced budget. View our Charter and Solid Waste Implementation Plan here.

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETINGS
The LRSWMD Board meets on the second Tuesdays of the month at 6:30 pm. Click here for meeting attendance info and a list of current Board members.

FACILITIES
LRSWMD operates five drop-off locations (Craftsbury, Johnson, Morrisville, Stowe, Worcester), a commercial composting facility, Lamoille Soil, located in Johnson, and an administrative office located in Morrisville. The administrative office does not accept waste. Drop-off facility services vary by location but, at a minimum, include bagged trash for disposal, mixed recycling, and organics collection. Management of other difficult-to-dispose-of items like tires, electronic waste, and appliances are also provided at several locations. Each site is somewhat unique in what types and how each material is managed. Click here for hours, locations, and materials info for each site.

OUTREACH & EDUCATION
We’re here for you! As part of our mission to keep us all safe and our environment clean, LRSWMD is committed to educating and working with our communities about the how and why of proper disposal and recycling. We offer free visits to groups, businesses, schools, libraries, and events to discuss trash, recycling, and compost. We also have resources for schools and businesses. Check out our Event Planning page for recommended best practices and to check out trash and recycling containers (free of charge) to help manage your event’s waste streams more easily.
