Thanks to TerraCycle, we can now accept even more “hard to recycle items” at the Stowe and Johnson Transfer Stations. Bring any of the following items to the scalehouse:
- Hair care packaging such as shampoo and , conditioner containers AND caps, hair gel tubes and caps, hair spray triggers, and hair paste caps
- lip balm tubes and caps
- soap dispensers and tubes
- body wash caps
- lotion dispensers and caps
- lipstick cases
- lip gloss tubes
- mascara tubes
- eye shadow cases
- bronzer cases
- foundation packaging
- powder cases
- eyeliner cases
- eyeliner pencils
- eyeshadow tubes
- concealer tubes
- concelaer sticks
- lip liner pencils
- toothpaste tubes and caps
- toothbrushes
- toothpaste cartons
- toothbrush outer packaging
- floss containers
- *PLEASE NOTE: Electric toothbrushes, battery toothbrushes, and/or their parts are not recyclable through the program.
Best practices for recycling
In order to recycle this waste stream properly, please make sure all excess product has been removed (i.e. leftover product). Additionally, if you choose to rinse your product, please note that it must be completely dry prior to shipping.
What happens to the waste
Once collected, the personal care and beauty packaging is separated by polymer type, cleaned, and extruded into plastic pellets to make new recycled products.
