Leaves, Grass Clippings and Clean Wood, defined as: source-separated vegetative matter including grass clippings, leaves, Kraft bags, and brush 1-inch or less in diameter is now banned from disposal.
The best management technique is the oldest – make a pile and let them decompose into rich organic humus. Leaves are an excellent addition to kitchen scrap compost bins (the District sells compost bins at subsidized prices). If you do not have a place to compost on your property, yard debris is accepted at Johnson (loose), Stowe (must be bagged in a Kraft bag) or Worcester (must be bagged in Kraft bag).
